Light it Up Blue for World Autism Awareness Day!

Today is World Autism Awareness Day. In honor of of the day the world is lighting it up blue. World landmarks, city buildings, businesses, and individual homes are lighting it up blue to bring awareness to autism. 1 in 88 kids are diagnosed with autism each year.

About Annisa

I am wife, mom, and mental health therapist. I have two wonderful boys, David (9) and Joaquin (5), who keep me on my toes. I love spending time with my husband and my boys. As therapist and specialize in children and adolescent therapy and truly enjoy my work. I primarily use art and play based therapies and I am certified as an equine assisted psycho-therapist.

My oldest son David was recently diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder and this blog is our family's journey navigating through the therapies, school system, and day to day life. Despite my profession, I do not claim to be an expert on autism spectrum disorders. I am merely a mom trying to advocate for her children.

About David...

David is my 9 year old, amazing son. He is one of the funniest people and I know and his laugh is infectious. David loves to read and learn. He is currently into the Harry Potter series, and just finished The Order of the Phoenix. He also loves the Dragonbreath series and Captain Underpants series. David loves dinosaurs and wants to be a paleontologist when he grows up. He is incredibly bright and is academically above grade level. He enjoys playing Pokemon, Ninjago, drawing, writing stories, playing his DS and Wii, collecting Webkinz, and playing with his friends. David does karate and is working towards his black belt. He is currently brown with single black stripe belt.
